STEM 8th grade (Yarbro)
Course Description
“We believe all students… need access to real-world, applied learning experiences…
Through our programs, students develop in-demand, transportable skills – such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and communication – that they will use both in school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take… [students] are empowered to explore career paths, engage in problem solving and process thinking, develop technical knowledge and skills, and build communication skills.”
In STEM 8 we study the Science of Technology in Semester 1, and Flight and Space in Semester 2. These courses ask students to explore Chemistry, Nanotechnologies, Applied Physics, the Science of Flight, Aeronautics, and Space Travel. The class is built on an Activity & Project Based (APB) Learning structure. This simply means that we work hands-on and measure success through rubrics, collaborative achievement, and the growth of technical skill.
Goals: To increase academic achievement for our entire student population.
To create an environment that promotes active engagement, accountability, and collaboration in order to maximize student achievement.
To expose Middle School students to real-world challenges, creating solid college and career-ready foundations.
