Monday: Lyrics of Rebellion analysis to ID Human Rights Campaign, theme, figurative language, genre of literature, write a thesis statement
Tuesday: Guided essay using prompt from Monday's assignment
Wednesday: Lyrics of Rebellion - student choice of school appropriate lyrics. Students will demonstrate their analysis of how and if the lyrics address a human rights campaign effectively using the CLIPS app or iMovie app
Thursday: Essay test - using project from Wednesday - students will write an essay to analyze if and how the author's use of theme, figurative language, genre of literature (literature format) impact the song's human rights message.  
Friday: Case 21 analysis of scores, understanding requirements to move to 8th Honors and prepare for Case 21 standard Drill Downs

Weekly Agenda: November 18 - November 23

Students have a detailed calendar available in schoology. It provides the text in pdf, an audio version to listen along, reading logs, comprehension questions, reading assignments, quiz dates, and reading check dates for The Giver, an independent reading assignment. 
This week's quiz: Chapters 1 - 8 on Thursday, November 21.

  • Complete Argumentative Essay test (those that need the time)
  • Read and choose a side:
    • Informational Text: Dangers of Social Media, Violence in Movies, Celebrities as Heroes, Reality TV and Society
Tuesday:
  • Philosophical Chairs - Claims and Counterclaims in informational text, finding text evidence, developing a reason for text with analysis

  • The Giver Quiz - Chapters 1-8
  • ELA Career Day: Become a News Reporter delivering stories on breaking news in The Giver or Informational Text read this week

Monday: Body paragraph 1 - Veteran's Day program 6th period
Tuesday: Body paragraphs 2-3 
Wednesday: Introduction and Concluding paragraphs - sub 5th and 6th period for meeting
Thursday: Putting it all together: write your essay for a test grade
Friday: turn in final essay for Test grade

Weekly Agenda: November 4 - 8, 2019

Monday: Thesis Not Hard! Students will craft a 3-part argumentative essay thesis using the skills learned during "Thesis Not Hard!"- thesis statement = classwork grade
Tuesday: Philosophical Chairs: students will debate using cited evidence from a variety of sources to support their claim. Were the events in "The Raven" real (literal) or an imagined (figurative) event created by Poe? 
Wednesday: Conclude philosophical chairs, record cited evidence for each side on chart paper to provide support for the student's essays, begin writing the 1st body paragraph. 
Thursday: Write 2nd and 3rd body paragraphs using the class collection of evidence to support claims, and counter claims
Friday: Write a final draft: thesis, body paragraphs of argumentative essay that demonstrate a clear understanding of claim, counterclaim, and using good supporting evidence to support the details. Submit for a test grade. 

Weekly Agenda: October 28 - November 1, 2019

Monday: Review annotations, analysis, examine how the text format and word choice impacts the plot. - Turn in Comp questions and poe analysis: class work grade
Tuesday: Complete Poe Bio and questions for Essay
Wednesday: Assign Tableau activity: identify mood and theme of assigned stanza, create a still picture scene of the stanza while reading the stanza in the background of the image
Thursday: Watch H. Ela's Poe Tableau of "The Raven"
Friday: Arguing Poe

Weekly Agenda: October 21 - 25, 2019

Monday: Poe Bio - How do the events in a person's life influence an author's motivation for writing?
Tuesday: Analyze "The Raven" 3rd read with newly learned background knowledge of author's life; How does the plot of The Raven impact the tone and mood throughout the narrative?
Wednesday: Complete Poetry Analysis of The Raven: Classwork grade
Thursday: Develop a scene of your assigned stanza to record with a green screen. The scenes will be pieced together to create a movie of the poem.
Friday: Record the green screen stanza.
