Friday: Biography of Poe: How do the events in an author's life influence their writing? 

Weekly Agenda: September 30 - October 4, 2019

Monday: The Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll (words in context - read and rewrite using vocabulary) 
Tuesday: The Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll analysis of text, how use of words impact text structure. 
Wednesday: Writing Prompt - choose 1 of 3 to respond for extended write 
Thursday: Notes - sound devices and figurative language - The Raven - 1st read (audio Rathbone)
Friday: The Raven - annotate 1st stanza for sound devices (color code); assign 1 stanza per group to annotate then share. 

September 23-27

Friday students were given the opportunity to retake any skills assignment before the grades were set. Please be aware, each student was given 2 chances on each assignment. The second chance was after skills were taught and reviewed
Monday: Review test grades (from Friday writing), figurative language formative assessment results
Tuesday: Discuss TNReady test taking skills: annotating on tests for responses

Thursday: Rikki Tikki Tavi reading Quick Check = Quiz grade 
Friday: Thesis statement activity = classwork grade

Wednesday: Quiz - The Hobbit; Introduce Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling; pre-reading and vocabulary
Thursday and Friday: Read Rikki Tikki Tavi with group and practice annotating. 
  • Assign Group Activity 
  • Examine how the character's actions influence the plot; groups will be given Types of Conflict or Characterization Activities to work through.
  • The students will create a presentation for the class explaining their type of conflict, plot, or characterization using specific guidelines.
