English Language Arts — Mr. Wilson (6th/8th)

class"Good teachers are on their feet connecting with students. They set high standards. They encourage and inspire. Good teachers are tough but fair. They are real. Like Justice Potter, I cannot define a good teacher, but I know one when I see one." - Rafe Esquith

Hello, I am Mr. Wilson. I teach 6th/8th grade English Language Arts. Our focus this year is to increase our reading comprehension, critical/analytical thinking, and writing competencies. TNREADY is the measuring stick for our students' success. Please support us by encouraging your children to study daily (including homework completion), to read frequently, and to write outside of school. The gates to success are through literacy.

We will continue to practice writing informative essays, argumentative essays, and narratives.

Parents you can reinforce these skills by encouraging your children to read newspaper articles, magazine articles, and short stories. Then, assign your children a writing assignment based on the text (e.g. "Who was the main character in the story?; What was the main character's personality like?; What was the central or main idea of the article?").

Here are some helpful websites to view along with your student.
       - ReadWriteThink
       - OWL English
       - BrainPop (the password/username is palmbeach)
       - Newsela

Parents if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions that will benefit our students, please contact me. I am here to help and serve the community; that's my only motivation.

Lessons are viewable and available on YouTube

Sign up for tutoring here. Remember I offer tutoring only on Wednesday mornings at 7:20 A.M. In order to attend tutoring, you must sign up online by every Monday, 9:00 P.M.
